SUMMARY: A seven-year-old girl is traumatized and scarred after being attacked by a dog. Her classmates ostracize her and give her the name "Dogface", which continues to haunt her long after grade school. The alienation and rejection initiate a lifelong struggle with feelings of inferiority, and a desire to challenge America's obsession with beauty.
