A seven-year-old girl is traumatized and scarred after being attacked by a dog. Her classmates ostracize her and give her the name "Dogface", which continues to haunt her long after grade school. The alienation and rejection initiate a lifelong struggle with feelings of inferiority, and a desire to challenge America's obsession with beauty. Ultimately, Dogface must find a way to reclaim her self-worth, despite her alleged ugliness.

EXCERPT - FROM SCENE 4 - "BAIT AND SWITCH":

(Dogface, at age 19, scopes guys with her friends Rita and Chelsea at a college bar.)

    CHELSEA
What about him? Dark hair, goatee?

    DOGFACE
    He's with someone.

    CHELSEA
That might not be his girlfriend.

    DOGFACE
Even if she's not, she clearly wants to be.

    RITA
That doesn't mean he wouldn't like you better than her.

    DOGFACE
Please. Look at her. Look at me. No contest.

    CHELSEA
If all you're going to do is make disparaging remarks about yourself all night, we could be doing that at home.

    DOGFACE
    Oh, could we? Please?

    CHELSEA
(Taking on an inspirational, motivational tone.) We can't just go to Denny's and hang out in the dorms reading Cosmo! We're supposed to be out, doing things, hooking up with all the wrong guys, binge-drinking, having adventures! We are wasting our twenties!

    DOGFACE
I've still got another four months before I'm twenty. Can't I spend them in my pajamas, eating French onion dip?
