SUMMARY:

Gray Matter is a high school drama written by a high school student for high school students (power to the people). A treatise on love lost, the meaning of life and the reason that people wear old dirty hats. The story is a memory play told by the main character, Thomas, who uses his love experiences in his formative years to shape the rest of his life.

    THOMAS:
    Hey, guys. What's going on? Is Cindy here?

    PAUL:
    No, she just left.

    THOMAS:
    Good. [beat] Did she leave my book?

    PAUL:
    [picking book up] This book?

    THOMAS:
    Yeah.

    PAUL:
    [reading] Love Story. [pause] Are you gay?

    THOMAS:
    I know you'd like me to be. Now give me my book back.
