I'm 2,000 words behind in the novel, which is one day's worth. Julie read most of it tonight. Then Steve came over, and we drove through the countryside in search of a "scarry looking" building (Julie's words) which she had seen the night before. What reminded her of an abandonded mental asylum turned out to be an abandonded barn. I was reminded of the reason that I don't go looking for secluded locations - namely the fact that with my lack-of-sense-of-direction, I'd never be seen or heard from again.

And furthermore, with the novel... I'm trying to make the nameless main character (a thinly disguised version of myself) as insane as possible. On some level, I'm enjoying stretching my own madness to the absolute limit. On another, entirely different level, I fear that making myself seem crazy is just... too easy...

I know, I know. I said it, not you.
