Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
Saturday, May 17, 2008 @ 10:02 AM
Anna: "Mommy, who is going to be the next President?" Sheila: "We don't know yet, honey. It looks like it will either be Barack Obama or John McCain." Anna: "Oh, mommy! It can't be McCain! That would be like four more years of Bush!"
Anna is ten, and she gets it. Why doesn't everyone?

Well, because it's an over simplification. And this associating McCain with Bush kind of offends me, because, you know, McCain is a war hero and a good legislator and patriot and whatever else blah blah blah you want to say about him. It isn't his fault that the country and his party wanted a fucktard when it was his turn eight years ago. But that's the thing about turns, they come and then they go. It isn't his turn anymore. It isn't the turn for any Republican. This is Bush's fault. But make an argument that a 5th grader can't understand. Most of the time, if I find that 10 year olds are agreeing with me then I'm prolly wrong.

You raise a good point, Josh. It's wrong of me to imply that Bush and McCain are the same person. McCain is smarter. He has a military service record. As far as I know, he's never done cocaine or illegally invaded a nation.
But the point is, they have the same policies. They are both think Roe v. Wade should be overturned. They are both anti-gay rights. They both support abstinence-only education. They are both entrenched in the military-industrial complex. They want to cut taxes for the rich and eliminate social programs for the poor. And they both claimed to be moderate, compassionate conservatives in their first campaigns.
I don't mean to attack his character, I'm attacking his policies. If you think they're so different, please take the Bush/McCain challenge:

and get back to me.
