You have never seen me
those times I've been alone
You have never witnessed
the strength I've shown
If we had never met
you might not have ever known.
If we had never spoken,
could you have seen in me
the passion and the promise
years away from breaking free?
Could you have glimpsed my nature
through walls of silent reverie?
Did you sense my potential
for honesty and ease -
even despite the awkwardness
that had me on my knees?
Could you have ever seen my heart
My finer qualities?
Could you have seen through my skin
to the unspeakable within?
If something drew you to me
I guess I'll never know
All I feel is grateful
for how you helped me grow
I knew something was missing,
and that something wasn't you -
but you saw potential in me,
and you made me see it, too.
